The following is from the introduction to the book.
This book was not prepared as a comprehensive, all inclusive work, the research for which sought to gather every bit of information from every available source. Nor is it intended as an A to Z encyclopedia of telemedicine. Instead, this book is offered as a reference manual which contains largely experientially based information. Many of the lessons and insights shared in this manual were learned at the Eastern Montana Telemedicine Network where the author served as the principal developer and first director for approximately four years.
Because all of the author's experience has been with video telemedicine programs there is a clear emphasis on concepts, data, and tools related to video telemedicine systems. Reasonable efforts were made to include references to non-video telemedicine systems in all applicable areas. The relative lack of emphasis on non-video applications is in no way representative of their relative value or utility in the practice of telemedicine.
The preparation of this manual was an effort intended to assist those who are patient enough to read it, in succeeding when implementing telemedicine projects, or when dealing in other aspects of the telemedicine arena.
